Affiliation Structure
As the Wimble Nation is currently in the process of re-emergence, most of the affiliation structure is liable to changes and alterations over the next few years. Hopefully this data archive will be kept current - although this depends on wether information is forthcoming from the Grandfather at the time of change.
Naming
Conventions (Wimbles)
All
Wimbles have a minimum of two parts to their name, and most have three or more.
The first part of a Wimbles' name is the personal identifier. This is given to
the Wimble at birth by members of the family, although sometimes this name gets
changed to a more appropriate one later on. Each name is only ever used once in
each family, at any one time.
The second name is
the family name of the Wimble. This is an historic name, and is only ever changed
if a joining ceremony is involved - it would be a great insult to a Wimbles'
ancestors to go around changing family names willy-nilly. If two Wimbles from
different families join as mates, they both take on the name of the family that
they will live with - this choice is left to the happy couple.
The third name is the most important in many ways. It is the name of the Tribe
that the Wimble belongs to. This defines a Wimble more than anything else - his
origin, honour, social standing and skills. This also means that a Wimbles home
planet can be identified very readily.
Wimbles belonging
to the Dominant Tribe rarely use their family name, as tribes of this nature
behave as a single family. As most communications with outsiders is conducted by
members of a Dominant Tribe, it is rare for outsiders to encounter Wimbles with
more than two names. A good example of this is the current Wimble homeworld -
Doubt, in the Twilight system. The Dominate Tribe there is called the Enewatak.
It's current Organiser is T'pau, of the Smegloc family. As Organiser of the
Dominant Tribe, he merely uses the name T'pau Enewatak. T'pau has a biological
son; T'oa Smegloc. T'oa was born into the Enewatak tribe, and thus is known only
as T'oa Enewatak.
The current Grandfather, Lemora
Enewatak, is not related biologically to the Smegloc family, belonging to the
Enewatak family. His family is also a ruling member of the dominant tribe. Therefore,
his full name would be Lemora Enewatak Enewatak, but he too is known only by his tribal
name.
Naming
Conventions (Ships)
All
Wimble ship captains have the right to decide the name of their ship. Generally
the name reflects something close to their hearts, or in the case of Defence
ships, things they despise. Many captains name their transport ships after the
type of cargo they carry, or their favourite food, such as the "Juicy
Bovine" or "Perishable Goods". Escort and Defence ships generally follow an old
human tradition of aggressive names designed to instil awe and alarm in an
enemy. Unfortunately a Wimbles idea of an alarming incident tends to only give
themselves nightmares, thus examples are "Putrid Dyke", "No
Lube", "Empty
Barrel" and "Mad Cow".
Naming
Conventions (Starbases)
Wimble
Starbases are generally given names associated with the surrounding terrain.
Examples are "Meadow View" and "Didcot Grove". This simplistic naming convention
helps Wimbles away from home remember and visualise what they are missing.
Political Structure
All decisions concerning the Wimble Nation are made by the
current Grandfather. Only the Grandfather has the power to set and
remove laws concerning the Wimble Nation. The Grandfather is
advised and supported by a hierarchy of officials, all of which have substantial
influence over the Nation's people. This arrangement enables these advisers to
prevent outlandish law changes and decision making by the Grandfather -
although this has not yet been necessary.
New hopefuls onto the political ladder must obtain the
standing of Elder within their tribe before being recognised as any form
of authority. Any Wimble who raises to the position of Chief within the
head tribe on his planet, and therefore takes on the responsibilities of an Organiser,
will have his standing increased and his official title will reflect this. Some
very powerful and influential Organisers, who prove themselves worthy and
capable of great responsibility are promoted to the position of Chief
Organiser. The Chief Organisers are generally left to their own
devices and are assigned specific areas of responsibility. Above the Chief
Organisers are the Sooth Sayers. These Wimbles are given huge responsibilities
to cover general aspects of the Nation. They are also the close personal
advisers of the Grandfather.
The basic Political Hierarchy then looks a little like this:

As can be seen from the diagram, each level is responsible for the next two lower levels, and is answerable to the next two highest levels. Chief Organisers tend to be very busy ensuring the lower ranks are sufficiently well organised to please the higher ranks. This ensures that each level has the support it requires with little room for error.
Military
Hierarchy
All ships of all designs are classified as military assets by
the Wimble Nation. The reason is that they consider all the danger to be
"out-there" rather than in their own communities. It makes the Wimbles
very cautious about space travel, and thus their ships usually carry an amount of defensive weaponry and shielding, and their Crews are fully trained in
their operation. All ships and ground parties use the same ranking structure.
Any Wimble placed in charge of either a ship or a group of shuttles is
classified as a Pilot. This is a very basic, entry level title that
infers command rather than proven ability. Once the pilot in question has proved
his worth in the eyes of either the Grandfather, a Sooth-Sayer or a Chief Organiser, they
will be promoted to the standard rank of Advanced Pilot (Adv.Pilot)
and receive the Advanced Pilot Medal. Only Advanced Pilots or
higher ranks are permitted to fly anything but the most basic training craft.
The Advanced Pilot can then begin to proceed through the military ranks, obtaining
the position of Flyer, Flying Chief, Sky chief and then
finally the title of LightOne. A pilot must obtain a minimal rank of Flyer
to be granted rights to command Escort class defence ships, and all offensive
warships fall under the command the ranks of Flying Chief and
greater. Obtaining the rank of LightOne is a remarkable feat indeed, as
it symbolises that the pilot has reached a standard comparable to the mythical
Light Ones. Any pilot wearing the robes of a LightOne is treated with
great respect, simular to the Grandfather. They are viewed as beacons lighting the way forward for the
Wimble Nation, scattering the forces of darkness before them, and they are
always the subject of a story session.
